ARS BALTICA Youth Film Competition
„Your home is your culture“: For the first time the Baltic Sea cultural initiative ARS BALTICA together with its partners the EU-Baltic Sea project First Motion and the Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein organizes a competition for young talents in the category „film“. Every second year, the ARS BALTICA young talents prize will be awarded in different categories to young people aged between 15 and 28. This is the first step to establish a new label „ARS BALTICA Youth“.
The applicants are called upon to hand in a concept for a five minutes short film on the topic „Cultural Islands around the Baltic Sea“. The film realisation starts in September 2011 and should be finished within the following two years. For a successful application it is very important to have an interesting concept and a convincing strategy.
The competition is aiming to active use of new media and the promotion of the intercultural dialog in the Baltic Sea Region. The participants are asked to discover „cultural islands“ in the Baltic Sea Region and to cooperate in the work process with at least three Baltic Sea states. The idea of cooperation can be with regards to content as well as an active cooperation. The results should draw attention to the cultural variety of the Baltic Sea area and its cultural identity.
The short film concept should be presented on two DIN A4 pages in English. The winner is chosen by a jury, consisting of three representatives of ARS BALTICA, First Motion and the Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein – Filmwerkstatt Kiel. At the beginning of September the jury announces the winner.
The award carries a value of 2.000 € and the project is supported by a mentor from First Motion who will give advice with the realization until 2013. Furthermore, ARS BALTICA assists the winner by providing its public relations and its networking.
The short films premiere will be at the next ARS BALTICA forum which deals with the topic „Islands“ in 2013 as well. To present the winners project on different occasions is planned, e.g. at the ARS BALTICA accredited project Nordic Film Days in Lübeck (Northern Germany).
