8. Filmfest Schleswig-Holstein Augenweide
One World International Film Festival, Prag zu Gast beim 8. Filmfest Schleswig-Holstein
Der diesjährige internationale Partner des Filmfestes Augenweide heißt mit vollem, aussagekräftigen Titel: “6th ANNUAL ONE WORLD INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS DOCUMENTARY FILM FESTIVAL” und hat am 14. April mit seinem diesjährigen Festival begonnen (14.-22.4.2004, www.oneworld.cz).
Das Festival, gegründet von der Organisation “People in Need”, ist inzwischen zu einem der größten europäischen Menschenrechtsfestivals herangewachsen. Unter der Schirmherrschaft des früheren Präsidenten Vaclav Havel und des Kultusministers Pavel Dostal sowie Partnerregionen und Städten werden dem Publikum, der Jury und natürlich den internationalen Filmschaffenden eine Auswahl von 156 Filmen und Videoproduktionen im Archa Theater und weiteren Prager Kinos gezeigt. Im Hauptwettbewerb laufen 15 abendfüllende Dokumentarfilme und der Kurzfilmwettbewerb zeigt 16 Produktion bis 35 Minuten Länge.

The main competition section will offer gripping stories, powerful testimonies, charismatic personalities, outstanding filmmaking, and intriguing reflections on the challenges of our time. The Right to Know category will offer 16 investigative reports on current affairs, human rights, global issues, inside stories, and in-depth coverage that audiences usually cannot find on TV. In the non-competition thematic blocks, the One World 2004 program will present around 50 documentaries divided into the following sections: Reconciling the Past; Global South and Global North; Dying at Grace; Accepting Otherness; Special Reports; Docs for Kids; Visegrad Highlights; Direct Cinema/Cinema Verite; Winning Hearts and Minds; and Human Rights in Fiction.
One World Highlights will be presented at 14 regional centers in the Czech Republic: Brno, Ceske Budejovice, Hradec Kralove, Liberec, Kutna Hora, Olomouc, Ostrava, Pardubice, Plzen, Teplice, Uherske Hradiste, Usti nad Labem, and Roznov pod Radhostem.
One World is a festival dedicated to freedom, justice, and human dignity. Therefore, in addition to filmmakers and film professionals, One World invites to Prague extraordinary personalities, charismatic and brave individuals who dare to be outspoken and active on behalf of freedom, democracy, truth, justice, equal rights and dignity, in most cases at great personal risk. This year’s special guests will be Harry Wu, one of the most outspoken critics of Communist China; Natasa Kandic, a prominent human rights activist from Serbia and Montenegro; and Ms. Khin Ohmar, Women’s affairs coordinator for the Burma UN Service of National Coalition Government of the Union of Burma (NCGUB) and presidium board member of the Women’s League of Burma (WLB). Ohmar is a strong advocate for increased participation of women in the Burmese democracy movement and its decision-making process. Currently, she coordinates the “Women as Peacebuilders Program” of the WLB.
